Meet Maria! She's Unstoppable!

Meet Maria! She's Unstoppable!

Hey there! I’m Maria Dalzot (@mariadalzot), a member of the Lily Trotters Ambassador Team. I live in the upper left corner of the Pacific Northwest in Bellingham, Washington, which is 90 minutes north of Seattle and just 20 minutes from the Canadian border. I am a mountain ultra trail runner and have been running since I was 11-years old. That’s 22 years!

Due to the coronavirus, my usual summer racing in Europe has been canceled and I have spent the summer exploring our backyard mountains, the North Cascades. We live in an incredible place and I feel very fortunate to have access to such a magical landscape despite the travel restrictions. But right now, the west coast is experiencing historic wildfires that are wreaking havoc on our beloved land, homes, and lives. To say this year has been tough is an understatement. I hope that you are staying safe wherever you are and taking care of yourself as best as you can under these difficult circumstances.

In addition to being a mountain ultra trail runner, I am a Registered Dietitian who specializes in Intuitive Eating. My passion is helping people have a more positive and celebrated relationship with food and their bodies. I work with many people who want to stop dieting and learn how to trust their bodies again and those who have been in eating disorder recovery but still struggle with disordered eating behaviors.

Many are in the pursuit of a “perfect” diet. But, I don’t care how healthy or perfect you eat, if you don’t have a healthy relationship with food, your mental and physical health will suffer. If you find yourself struggling, you are not alone; please reach out for the help and support that you deserve!

The cool thing about running is that even though I have been doing it for 22 years, I am still learning something new every time I step out the door. I am learning what my body is capable of physically as it changes and I grow older. I also struggle with a lot of fear and anxiety in my daily life and running gives me the opportunity to go outside of my comfort zone and challenge those fears head on.

I am constantly humbled by this seemingly simple act and amazed at where my legs and feet can take me. Running connects me to nature, to myself and to humanity. I think that is why I have laced up my shoes almost every day for most of my life.

Wishing you health and safety, Maria
